Wednesday isn’t a normal posting day for me, but on Monday I received the letter pictured here from Congressman Ron Paul’s office (you can click on the image to enlarge it). It says the following:
Dear Ted:
Thank you for sending me a copy of your book, The Eagle Has Crashed. I look forward to reading your story regarding the catastrophic dangers that will occur if America fails to realize the consequences of the growing national debt.
For Liberty,
Ron Paul
I have no idea whether Dr. Paul has actually seen the book, as the letter was obviously written by a staffer (female, judging by the hand-written address). But consider who all I sent a copy last August: my representatives (Rep. Bob Gibbs, Sen. Sherrod Brown, and Sen. Rob Portman), every member of the “Super Committee,” every presidential candidate for whom I could find an address (I couldn’t find one for Huntsman, Santorum, or Johnson), and several other members of Congress who have expressed concerns over our debt crisis (e.g., Paul Ryan, Rand Paul). Of all those copies, only two have sent a response: Dr. Paul and Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wa.), whose office sent a form letter regarding our deficit problem.
I don’t know what, if anything we can read into this, but I thought you might be interested.
(I also don’t know why a letter dated October 20 didn’t arrive until November 21 — there was no postmark on the envelope.)

Congratulations, CT!
I think your book should be read along Atlas Shrugged by every presidential candidate.
That’s pretty heady company! Hopefully it finds its way into some of their hands. It’s obvious that no one on the “Super Committee” saw it!
Ted,
That is so totally cool!
And pathetic that you can’t even get a form letter out of your elected representatives. The girls on my Smart Girl Politics forum like to compare our form letters we get back from TN Gov VIPR Haslam. No matter what we write about, it’s the same letter we get back.
I’m just so impressed by Ron Paul’s genuineness. Whether you agree with him on everything or not, no can can take issue with his integrity.
Also note that Dr. Paul sends part of his congressional office budget back to the Treasury each year. This means that he has his staff respond to people outside of his district on less money than the rest of them. That’s neat too.
Off to cook some more-have a blessed Thanksgiving!
Thanks, RM! I’m certainly hoping the book makes its way around his office.
Btw, I tried leaving a comment at your site on the post of the Mark Larsen audio, but I had trouble. Very funny stuff. I’ll keep trying to leave comments.
At least you got a letter back, even if it was written by a staffer. The important thing is, someone in the Ron Paul camp has seen your book. Maybe they will read it and learn a thing or two.
I definitely have no problem with a staffer writing the letter — that’s pretty standard. The fact that it was personalized is what really made an impression on me. With any luck it will get passed around the office and maybe even find its way into Dr. Paul’s hands.
Congratulations! Hopefully they get passed to someone who will read it and start a chain of events!
That’s what I’m hoping for. Can you imagine what would happen if he mentioned the book on the campaign trail???
You want a plug? Get a lobbyist.
Ha!
As to why the letter came so late, let me quote Chris Wysocki:
Congratulations! You got the book into some good hands. Hopefully it leads somewhere grand.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Happy Day of self-interested capitalistic indulgence to you, too, CL!
Why didn’t Ron Paul ever go to work while he was a Congressman? He only read the first sentence in the Bill of Rights, “Congress shall pass no law.” That being the case, he went home.
